Eviction party from 6.00 h: the neighbourhood cop just passed by confirming that they didn't forget the appointment and "will come with helmets and everything in the morning", which means that the chances of fun will increase for anybody who will be around :D.

There'll be also a water cannon to fight the hot weather and lots of people with uniforms and long sticks, just to make atmosphere. The music will come by DJ Cohen & Ymere soundsystem.

22th June - 7th July* CREATE YOUR STRUGGLE*
A call for actions all across the city! The upcoming massive eviction wave will kick around 100 people out on the streets and once again close autonomous social centers which are stages for free and open political and cultural activities.
So get together with your friends and neighbours and be creative. Get out on the streets and be visible. Bring your living room, kitchen or toilet to the street in protest against bullshit government policies. Give workshops, present your projects to the public, decorate your chosen owners office or a cop station with some colourful paint (an "arrestatie groep" can be arranged when needed).. We must fight the evictions and we must fight them united! Amsterdam has been asleep for too long. We cannot go on being divided, isolated and prejudiced against each other. It's time to change this once and for all. So let's stop just talking about it.. Let's stand up and start acting!

Pass by SCUB to get updated and update others. Exchange ideas, share your knowledge and experiences, prepare your actions, pick up flyers to spread anywhere and everywhere (squats, streets, performances, various hannukkah parties..).

Hopefully towards the end of this week we will be able to bring all our separate contributions to this struggle together and make a massive, varied demo in a central location in the city.

5th of June, 15.00* SCUB COURT CASE*
Except for a 1-month-long antikraak contract, the Scub was empty for four years before we squatted it. Now, because of that contract, the space has been declared 429. Article 429 states that it is against the law to squat a place that has been in use within a year, and now the city is using this ridiculous argument to get us evicted. They are just trying to shut us up!
During all those years Ymere showed no interest in the place and neither do they have any plans for its' future use. Article 429 is just an easy excuse for all speculating owners and the corrupted establishment to keep houses empty and to execute their repressive politics over people.

Naturally they love using it against any kind of self-organized activities that oppose, and present alternatives to, the consumerism and capitalism of this society.
So we decided to fight against this 429 decision and sued the city. Come join us in protest on the day of our court case, 25th of June, 3PM at Parnassusweg 220! The more people there will be, the more pressure the judge will have: use your legitimate right to be fucking noisy! Bring banners, couches, kitchens, kittens.
Each and every form of support is much appreciated. The fight is not over yet, it just began!

26th - 28th of June* DIY FESTIVAL*
Bands, performances, dj's, vj's, workshops, graffiti and whatnot! DIY stands for Do It Yourself, so don't be a wallflower, be a part of it! It's up to you what is going to happen. Bring your records, instruments, spray cans, installations, whatever you always wished to do and just go with the flow! Preparations are being made and it might be your skills and ideas that this place is still missing.

De Ruyterkade 153-157 en Piet Heinkade 2 worden voor leegstand
ontruimd.

In 2004 heeft de Burgemeester van Amsterdam duidelijk gemaakt dan in deze stad kraakpanden niet voor leegstand ontruimd zullen worden.

Tijdens de laatste 4 jaar werd deze plek maar een keer gebruikt voor een
tentoonstelling, en dan voor een periode van 1 maand in de herfst van 2008 op basis van een anti-kraak contract.

Niettemin heeft eigenaresse Ymere op basis van deze antikraak van slechts 1 maand aangifte gedaan en eist nu een ontruiming voor art 429 sexies. En dan hebben wij het eigenlijk over 2 verschillende gekraakte ruimtes, waarvan 1 niet geschikt is voor verhuur en dus nooit gebruikt werd, een feit die opzettelijk door Ymere over het hoofd gezien wordt.

Gezien deze feiten is de zogenaamd krakersvriendelijke positie van de
gemeente Amsterdam slechts theoretisch en dus hypocriet. De krakers
bestrijden namelijk wel degelijk leegstand en speculatie, toch wordt hun
het leven onmogelijk gemaakt.

In slecht 2 maanden bezetting en dan zonder enige vorm van subsidie,
hebben de krakers van het SCUB op deze plek menige cultuirele ctiviteiten
op touw weten te zetten, ook dankzij de hulp van medestrijders uit de
hele wereld: een weggeefwinkel, een volkskeuken, regelmatige
dansworkshops, bioscoopvoorstellingen, free software workshops,
een zeefdruk- en fotografielaboratorium, infoavonden, kunst performances
en in duclis fondo: migrantenradio in solidariteit met onder meer de
slachtoffers van de schipholbrand en de schoonmakercampagne van FNV
bondgenoten.

Het kan zondermeer gezegd worden, dat dit allemaal geen programma voor de brede bevolking is, maar dit geldt evengoed voor wat er plaatsvindt in het muziekgebouw aan het ij recht tegenover en andere soortgelijke culturele instituties , die dan wel zwaar gesubsidieerd worden, maar eigenlijk maar opgezet zijn op een kleine geprivilegieerde gemeenschap te vermaken.

Wie hedendaags amsterdam binnen komt gaat grote moeite hebben om de broedplaatsen te ontdekken die oorspronkelijk veel van de charme van ons stad uitmaken, terwijl juist deze charme dan op een kunstmatige manier gecreerd moet worden door van boven af geemuleerde projecten uit de 'kreatieve industrie'. Het is daarbij van belang om vast te stellen dat de echte creativiteit als een komplex menselijk process, bezwaard door de
lichamen van de feitelijk creativen en hun hun onderlinge relaties, niet
interessant is voor de markt, maar slechts als een abstractie, vrij van
irrationaliteit en pijn, licht genoeg om als een soort groot logo boven de
continenten te blijven zweven.

Terwijl deze logica van gesystematiseerde productie steeds meer
van het terrein van de menselijke creativiteit inneemt, zullen we
wellicht een stadium bereiken waar we al onze kennis over dit moeilijke
domein moeten inleveren, om er uiteindelijk volledig van de vervreemden. Wellicht zullen we wij dan ooit geterroriseerd raken van de explosieve gevaren die de creativiteit van menselijke wezens met zich mee brengt.

Ymere sucks, 100.000 renters can't be wrong

De Ruyterkade 153-157 and Piet Heinkade 2 are being evicted for
emptiness

In 2004 the major of Amsterdam stated that places in this city are not
going to be evicted for emptiness.

During a whole period of 4 years this place was used for a single art
exhibition, on behalf of an antikraak contract lasting one month in
autumn 2008. Ymere has not presented any plans for the future use of
this place.

Still, on the grounds of a 1 month antikraak contract Ymere filed a
complaint and claims eviction for the 429 article. Even more, we are
talking about 2 clearly separated places being occupied, of which one
is not fit to be rented and was never used, but this fact is being
willingly ignored in Ymere's complaint.

Owner Ymere is acting as a large speculator with public funds. many
citizens are already opposing their omnipresence, a gigantic
speculation phenomenon that Ymere is leading with unacceptable
arrogance, forcing us to have a court case on a very short notice.

In front of these facts, the so called squatter friendly position of
the council of Amsterdam is purely theoretical and therefore
hypocritical: we are fighting speculation and emptiness, still our
life is being made impossible.

In just 2 months of occupation and without any subsidies, the
squatters of SCUB, Social Space Under the Bridge, gave life to several
cultural activities, thanks to an international presence of
developers: A give away shop, a people's kitchen, regular dance
workshops, cinema projections, free software workshops, silk screening
and photography labs, info evenings, live music rehearsals, art
performances, and dulcis in fundo: migrant to migrant radio with
spoken word programs in solidarity with the survivors of the schipol
fire and the FNV bondgenoten union campaign of the schoonmakers of
schipol.

It can be said that we are not catering to the majority, but so its
the muziekgebouw just in front, and many other cultural spaces
subsidized in the city, clearly configured to entertain small
privileged communities.

Nowadays on the port of Amsterdam is hardly possible to spot the
broedplaatsen that characterized it, while grass-root initiatives are
emulated by the top-down "creative industries" development. But what
interests the market is not creativity as a complex human process,
weighed down in bodies and relationships and empty days, but
creativity as an abstraction, free of irrationality and pain, and
light enough to hover like a great logo above the continents.

Perhaps, as the logic of systematized production occupies the terrain
of human creativity more completely, we will reach a stage where we
surrender all knowledge about this troubling domain, and it will
become entirely alien to us. Perhaps one day we will be terrified of
what explosive dangers might rise up from the creativity of human
beings.

The mayor & politicians & city council are having their meeting, and we are storming in to give 'em a piece of our mind on upcoming eviction wave.
Come and join SCUB and Zeeburgerkade and make some fucking NOIZZ.

We will meet for early breakfast at 11:00 at SCUB De Ruyterkade 153 and leave as a group. Afterwards we are planning to have a picnic and barbeque in front of Ruyterkade 7 which is the HQ of Ymere.

They come with the wave we come back with Tsunami!

Eviction threat

SCUB is facing eviction in a very very close future.
Acording to the owner YMERE the place was not empty for longer than one year because of an art exibition that took place between september and october 2008. It was the only activity since the place was build (four years ago) and this lead police to prosecute us under the article 429 of the law (the squat is illegal because was not one year empty).
Because we disagree with that decision as we belive that such a short period is not structual use of the house, and the owner has no plans for destination of the place, we decided to sue the city and fight against this decision.
The court date is set to 2nd of June.

Update on eviction

Today we received a fax through our lawyer from the officer of IN-justice.

The officer states that he won't wait for the court case on the 2nd of July and evict us before the trial would take place. It's actually not very nice from him but of course we don't believe in any justice system, specially in one that's screwing us up every time.

Lawyer of the state also said that he will wait with the eviction if we change the court case to any date before 29th of june. Does that mean the eviction wave is on 30th?

On saturday, 21 of march we squatted Piet Heinkade 2 and De Ruyterkade 153-157 on "het Ij" which are part of the recently built bridge on the level of the Muzikgebouw behind Central Station. The owner of the whole complex is the City of Amsterdam, but the 2 squatted places are additional owned by Woningcooperatie Ymere. Until now, monday afternoon, we have not heard any news from either cops or company. In the next few days we will be mainly busy building up the space (it is over 2000 square metres), so any help with either materials, building skills, transportation to getting materials or cooking, would be more than welcome. Please feel free to drop by and give a hand and also check out our program.

The struggle continues...

... We are fighting for self organized spaces that can be freed of political, cultural and social comformity brought by capitalist complicity (based on representation and compromise)...

... But now, more than ever, our desires are being attacked by the authorities... The city is mainly concerned with increased security measures and control.

And... We, the ones who don't fit into and fight agaisnt these plans by choice or by circumstances, are the ones being fucked over, evicted and excluded by this policy...

... We don't want that freedom and autonomy being granted to us by our enemies, which would mean to compromise on their terms...

... We want to create possibilities of genuine face to face interation as a way of opposing the system of isolation and repression that surveills, normalizes, codes and controls us.

We want to use squatted places as a tool in the first practical steps to exist on our own terms and to brew RESISTANCE AGAINST THE CAPITALIST SYSTEM protected by laws, government and cops.

These spaces are the points from which some of our contribution to social struggle can develop, sharpen and grow.

And where we can begin to live and understand how much this sytem of control over our lives is only repressing the possibilities of liberated social interaction and action, therefore useless to us, and must be attacked, destroyed!

FOR SOCIAL STRUGGLE EVERYWHERE AND ALWAYS. FOR OUR LIVES, OUR SPACES... OUR CITIES.
